Jeffrey S. Lowe

Jeffrey is an Immigration and Business lawyer, and has practiced law in Vancouver, BC since 1983. Starting his career as a busy corporate and real estate lawyer, Jeffrey sat back one day and asked his partner, “All that we do is help the rich get richer. What are we doing of any lasting significance?”

June 1989 found Jeffrey in Hong Kong, less than a week after the infamous Tiananmen Square incident in Beijing, where many student protesters died. Many people came to him, pleading for help to get out of Hong Kong. Jeffrey resisted, thinking that he didn’t want to be like the unscrupulous immigration lawyers that he had heard so much about. But a wise missionary friend advised, “Jeffrey, that’s exactly why we need to have excellent, professional, immigration lawyers, who will serve their clients with integrity and competence…or clients will just be left to the wolves!”

“Anything worth doing, is worth doing well!” With these words from his father ringing in his ears, Jeffrey took on immigration law, using his business law background to develop innovative strategies. So much so that by 1990, when he founded Lowe & Company, Jeffrey was teaching courses for immigration lawyers on advanced immigration strategies.

More recently, Jeffrey has developed strategies to help Human Resource professionals bring in foreign workers, from tradespeople to executives, to Canada. Inspired by Thomas Friedman’s book, The World is Flat Jeffrey developed strategies for employers to bring in from 1 to 40 foreign workers at a time, helping them recruit and assess foreign employees, obtain labour market opinions, Canadian trade certification, work permits and immigration.

Often, employers need to bring foreign workers in urgently, or their projects will either face penalties or significant economic loss. “We view immigration categories, such as Business Visitors, Intra Company Transfers, Labour Market Opinions, NAFTA and others just as tools to help our clients achieve their business or personal objectives. In urgent cases, we’ll often use a combination of them to craft a solution for our clients.”

“People often ask me what a Chief Inspirational Officer does,” says Jeffrey. “First, I need to inspire our team, to be the best they can be, and do the best they can do. Next, I seek to inspire our clients, by helping them realize that they do have options, and then helping them fulfill their objectives. Third, I try to inspire other lawyers and consultants, to not just make a living, but to build Canada into a better place. And finally, we even seek to inspire Immigration officers to do the right thing!”

Since 1990, Jeffrey has travelled to over 30 different countries, and acted for clients from over 65 countries. He’s published articles and spoken at conferences for lawyers, immigration consultants, and professional audiences across Canada. Here are some recent ones

But in the end, it’s not the Titles that count; it’s the Testimonies. Of lives that we were able to impact in a positive way. Of going the extra mile to find solutions for our clients. Of colleagues that have been inspired to think better, do better, and be better. And that’s what makes a life worth living.
